The Blessed Mother

"Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word." Luke 1:38

From the moment of her Immaculate Conception, Mary was a vessel chosen by God to be the mother of His son, Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She is the perfect example of pure obedience to God even in the most difficult circumstances.

Our Lord gave us His mother when He said, "Woman, behold your son!" Then Jesus said to the disciple, "Behold your mother!" And from that hour the disciple took her to his own home." (John 19:25-27)

Should we also take Mary into our home and heart? What is her role in our road to sanctification? Why do Catholics have a strong devotion to Our Lady, while many non-Catholic Christians view this as misguided worship that distracts from Jesus?

As we celebrate the birth of the Christ-Child and begin a new year, consider hosting a Catholic speaker who can shed light on these issues and help us better understand the role that Mary plays in salvation history and our ultimate path to Jesus.
