Valerie Nicolosi
Bio
Mezzo-Soprano
"The Rosary in Song"
In 2005, mezzo-soprano Valerie Nicolosi was enjoying a rising career as a solo operatic performer around the United States. In the Spring of 2006, however, when she debuted her concert entitled The Rosary in Song at Magdalen College in Warner, New Hampshire, everything changed.
"It was the most profound performing experience of my life. People were sitting spellbound while the music, poetry and drama of the greatest geniuses of all time spun them on the trail of the story of Christ. I remember how the whole room got up and cheered after the Resurrection. They forgot it was "classical" music, they forgot it wasn't all in English. The music, the art, somehow magically brought them all right back to the Resurrection, and somehow, they remembered how Glorious it all was. I knew then that this was something very special, and that it would change the direction of my life."
Since that debut, Miss Nicolosi has performed The Rosary in Song for audiences of all ages around the nation. This amazingly powerful and enchanting concert tells the story of salvation using the familiar structure of The Holy Rosary as its guide. Narrators from each local venue are selected to announce the Mysteries, while Miss Nicolosi calls together the masters of poetry, art, music and drama to bring the fruits of each Mystery to life.
The songs for The Rosary in Song range from Early Renaissance to Twenty-First Century works performed in English, French, German, Italian, and Latin with printed translations provided in the program. This grand span of repertoire unites the spectator with all who have meditated on The Mysteries of the Rosary across all times and cultural borders. The Rosary in Song has the full support and endorsement of Bishop Michael Sheridan of Colorado Springs, CO.
"Ms. Nicolosi is a very committed and faithful Catholic... Her singing talents are world class, and her "Rosary in Song" concert is both a beautiful, edifying meditation on the life of Christ and a moving tribute to our Blessed Mother."
Most Reverend Michael J. Sheridan 2009
The Rosary in Song is just over an hour and a half long with a ten minute intermission. With very simple set-up, it is affordable, well-loved, and travels easily. In addition to this powerful concert, Miss Nicolosi can create similar thematic musical programs, or spread The Rosary in Song over a three-night event for conferences or mission programs.
